DEAR RIVINGTON

Five or six years ago, I bought what became one of my most worn and favorite scarves in a store I just happened to stumble into on Great Jones St. A few months ago, I again found myself on Great Jones and inside the treasure box that is DEAR Rivington

The store is very focused and directional, a well-honed perspective on design. Mostly Japanese designers like Comme des Garçons,  Yohji Yamamoto, Junya Watanabe and Issey Miyake, their private label DEAR, and an impeccably curated selection of vintage handbags, jewelry and accessories not to be missed. The ceramics by Hey Jado are earthy, expressive and a little bit ironic.

Husband and wife duo Moon and Heyja are the creative forces behind DEAR Rivington, and Heyja designs and crafts both the private label and the ceramics.

The passion I have for my vintage pearl collar acquired there is not to be matched! I had to share one of my favorite NYC shopping destinations and the work of this incredibly visionary couple.

What is the history of DEAR Rivington?  Where did you start and how have you grown into what you are now?

We started our business 18years ago and opened up first store on clinton st in lower east side of manhattan with heyja’s design pieces.

Then we moved to bigger space around the neighbors on Rivington st 3years later where we started mens line and home decor section along with our women’s clothing line,DEAR.

And we relocated our store to current location, great jones st in year of 2013.

How do you describe your store and your product assortment?  Have you always had the same direction?  How has it evolved over the years?

We always have pretty much same direction in our business, mixing with vintage pieces and new concepts which we always love.

Inspiration comes from anything in life i believe. We just have to pay more attention.

When did you and Hey introduce your own line, "Dear" into the mix?  What is the inspiration of this line?

We used to have vintage showroom for designer people in the industry before we started our store.

Where do you source your vintage products?  How do you find such incredible pieces?

We have been collecting so many valuable old pieces from all over the world for last almost 30years.

And we still do when we come across beautiful things.

How often, or not, do you introduce new brands or categories of product?

We constantly showing new works for our clients instead of just 2 different seasons collections.
